DIY Spa Hacks

There is nothing better than feeling vibrant, energetic, and beautiful. Often times we use beauty products, facials, or other beauty services to get us closer to this feeling. But, those can be expensive! Not to mention that at certain places, the products they use aren’t really that great for your skin.

There are things that you can do at home that will make you feel like you are at the spa. And, this way you can apply exactly what you want. In this post I am going to give you a few ideas as to what you can do to give yourself the relaxing day you deserve.

Body Exfoliation

SALT SCRUB:

1/2 cup of organic sea salt
1/3 cup of organic raw sugar or 1/3 cup of organic cane sugar
1 cup of room temperature coconut oil {best when it has a liquid consistency}
30 drops of essential oil

SUGAR SCRUB:

1/2 cup of organic raw sugar or 1/2 cup of organic cane sugar
1/3 cup of organic sea salt
1 cup of coconut oil {best when it has a liquid consistency}
30 drops of essential oil

Try these while you are in the shower! Take your time, and gently exfoliate all of your body. This will leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed.

DIY Strawberry Face Mask

You need:

Strawberries
Plain yogurt
Lemon juice
Honey
A knife
A fork
Measuring cups and spoons

Step 1: Cut and mash the strawberries

Step 2: Add 1 tablespoon of honey

Step 3: Add 1 tablespoon yogurt

Step 4: Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Spread on your face, put on some relaxing music, and enjoy!

DIY Spa Bath

The best part about a spa is the atmosphere. It smells amazing, is very relaxing, and gives you a sense of peace. You can make your bathroom feel like this too! Find some lavender scented candles, a bath salt of your choice, and bubble bath. Place the candles around the room, draw up your bubble bath, and turn on some relaxing music (I love the relaxation channel on Pandora). Put on your face-mask, and allow yourself to relax!

Bathing Suit Season=Meltdown Season: Stop The Madness

Swimsuit season is basically here… and for a lot of people that can be very very very VERY scary. I know for me, there is some anxiety about wearing a bathing suit… you can’t hide anything. But you shouldn’t WANT to hide any of it anyway! Everything you have is beautiful.

I know you’ve heard all of this before… embrace yourself, self love, confidence… blah blah blah. Every mom, mentor, teacher, magazine and friend says the same thing. And it’s true, but that advice is a hard one to swallow. No matter how many times you hear it or try to embrace it, it still ends up hard and the anxiety is still there.

My goal on this blog is to be real. I don’t put out fake information on here, nor do I try to make myself seem fake.  I want you to be able to trust and love the information I give you. Sometimes that means writing truth that might suck. Here is the truth about bathing suit season:

No matter what you do you will probably always have a little anxiety about wearing and shopping for a swimsuit.

There is no real way to make those thoughts and feelings completely disappear. If you think you have a way, please let me know… I would be cool with being wrong. But I haven’t heard of anything so far that has worked. Why? Because we are human.

We are always striving to be perfect, and when we can’t achieve it, we feel discouraged and low. Shopping for and wearing a bathing suit is no different. What you have to keep in mind is this:

You are having these thoughts and feelings, and that’s okay. What you can’t do is let them control your life! In the grand scheme of things, how you look in a bikini doesn’t matter. Nobody really cares if you are perfect but YOU. So don’t be hard on yourself. Almost every other girl/ boy that you see will have the same “problems” you do. Whether its stretch marks, cellulite, or a little bit of fat on your belly. You aren’t alone.

So the excuse that you can’t wear or look good in a bathing suit because you have stretch marks, or any of the other things I mentioned, can go right out the door right now. Put on that swimsuit, be yourself, and have fun. THAT’S what people are going to notice.

And, if people do judge you because of the way you look, it’s because they are insecure. Don’t let them affect you or the way you feel.

If you are still having trouble swallowing all of this information, check out these videos:

I watch these when I feel down, alone, or self conscious and they always help.

Watch them before you go swimsuit shopping, or when you feel self conscious. Remember you are beautiful, and never alone.

Back to school shopping can be really stressful. We all want to look good, make a good and powerful impression, and start our year off to a good start! In a lot of situations, girls have a very hard time while doing this because of body image issues. They don’t like the way anything fits, and that spirals into a meltdown and… not starting the year off in a good way. There are ways to avoid and treat these situations though… and I am here to tell you what they are! Follow these tips and you will most likely walk away with a good experience and some really cute clothes!

Exercise the morning before you shop

When we exercise, we are less likely to freak out about the way we look. So, take a walk, go for a run, dance in your room, or do one of my YogaCrossTeens workouts before you go and shop! You will be more confident about your body, making for a better shopping trip!

Don’t not eat on shopping day

Lots of people think that if they don’t eat they will feel better about themselves… well, not when you are grumpy because of it! When we get hungry, we get irritable and tired, two emotions you want to stay away while you are shopping. Grab a kashi bar, some veggie sticks, or an apple to bring with you. Its healthy, and will give you the energy and support you need to have a great day!

Have a friend or parent snap a pic of you

I like to call dressing room mirror fun house mirrors, because you always look bigger than you really are in them. After you put your clothes on, step out of the dressing room and have someone take a picture of you. That way, you see how you really look and it will make you more confident!

Grab a ton of different sizes… and jumble them up

Grab a ton of different sizes of the shelf, jumble them up in the dressing room, and try them on “blindly”. This way, you are focusing more on the fit of the actual clothes rather than what side you wear. (sizes are completely different from brand to brand)

Plus, always remember that you are beautiful no matter what! We all come in different shapes and sizes, so truly embrace it.

Try out these tips and let me know how they work! Plus, tweet me some pics of your new outfits, I would love to see them! SGoldstein33 is my twitter name!
