The Watermelon Ways

Watermelon is one of my absolute FAVORITE foods. It is delicious, beautiful, and you can do some many different things with it. It is especially refreshing in the summer… which works out good because thats when it’s actually in season.

Besides tasting great and being low in calories because watermelon is mostly water, Vitamin C, which a major antioxidant, is very prevalent in watermelon. It also has a high beta carotene concentration, containing a good amount of vitamin A as well. Beta Carotene in conjunction with vitamin a helps with eye sight too!

Watermelon also contains vitamin B, especially B1 (thiamine) and B6 (pyridoxine). Thiamine is important for maintaining electrolytes, especially when you are exercising. Pyridoxine is essential for converting food into energy.

The meat or pulp of watermelons is usually pink or red. The color indicates lycopene, an antioxidant praised for its ability to greatly minimize cancer risks.

So, not only is it delicious, it’s good for you as well! Check out below and see some different ideas of how to eat your watermelon in a couple different ways…

Watermelon Slush Smoothie

  • 1 cup watermelon
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 sliced cucumber

Place in blender and enjoy a refreshing smoothie!

Frozen Watermelon Feta Bites

  • Cube watermelon and feta, freeze overnight
  • Place toothpick into watermelon and feta bites

Eat and enjoy!

This next one is my absolute favorite… PLAIN WATERMELON.

Eat it in anyway that you think will be delicious…. because it probably will be.

Bathing Suit Season=Meltdown Season: Stop The Madness

Swimsuit season is basically here… and for a lot of people that can be very very very VERY scary. I know for me, there is some anxiety about wearing a bathing suit… you can’t hide anything. But you shouldn’t WANT to hide any of it anyway! Everything you have is beautiful.

I know you’ve heard all of this before… embrace yourself, self love, confidence… blah blah blah. Every mom, mentor, teacher, magazine and friend says the same thing. And it’s true, but that advice is a hard one to swallow. No matter how many times you hear it or try to embrace it, it still ends up hard and the anxiety is still there.

My goal on this blog is to be real. I don’t put out fake information on here, nor do I try to make myself seem fake.  I want you to be able to trust and love the information I give you. Sometimes that means writing truth that might suck. Here is the truth about bathing suit season:

No matter what you do you will probably always have a little anxiety about wearing and shopping for a swimsuit.

There is no real way to make those thoughts and feelings completely disappear. If you think you have a way, please let me know… I would be cool with being wrong. But I haven’t heard of anything so far that has worked. Why? Because we are human.

We are always striving to be perfect, and when we can’t achieve it, we feel discouraged and low. Shopping for and wearing a bathing suit is no different. What you have to keep in mind is this:

You are having these thoughts and feelings, and that’s okay. What you can’t do is let them control your life! In the grand scheme of things, how you look in a bikini doesn’t matter. Nobody really cares if you are perfect but YOU. So don’t be hard on yourself. Almost every other girl/ boy that you see will have the same “problems” you do. Whether its stretch marks, cellulite, or a little bit of fat on your belly. You aren’t alone.

So the excuse that you can’t wear or look good in a bathing suit because you have stretch marks, or any of the other things I mentioned, can go right out the door right now. Put on that swimsuit, be yourself, and have fun. THAT’S what people are going to notice.

And, if people do judge you because of the way you look, it’s because they are insecure. Don’t let them affect you or the way you feel.

If you are still having trouble swallowing all of this information, check out these videos:

I watch these when I feel down, alone, or self conscious and they always help.

Watch them before you go swimsuit shopping, or when you feel self conscious. Remember you are beautiful, and never alone.

The Breakfast Club- Health Nut Edition

Having breakfast with my friends is one of my absolutefavorite things to do! Waking up, and filling the house with the smell of fresh coffee and delicious food is the best way to start a day after a long night with friends. But, if you aren’t careful, you could end up filling your body with a bunch of crap that will make you feel badd throughout the day. And who wants to feel like that? Luckily there are some delicious and healthy food options out there for you to cook for a special breakfast with friends!

Some of my favorites:

  • You wouldn’t even know its Vegan Cinnamon Rolls
  • Original French toast made with Ezekiel bread (Can be found in the frozen organics section) Prepare like regular French Toast
  • Yogurt topped with fruit, nuts, honey, peanut butter, with a side of fresh toast
  • Pancakes with banana, blueberries, and greek yogurt to top
  • Veggie Omelets
  • Fresh Fruit salad
  • Chocolate fried bananas
  • Turkey bacon with eggs and Ezekiel toast, topped with hot sauce

All of these recipes are delicious… I have tried them all and so have my friends, there were a very big hit. The cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and chocolate fried bananas are more “treats” so make sure that these aren’t an everyday occurrence. Everything in moderation!

And… to make the morning even more fun, do a yoga routine right before you start cooking! Something like Sun Salutations, or a quick vinyassa flow you find on YouTube.. Speaking of YouTube… I should have my business up and running soon, lots of videos coming, I am so excited!

Mother’s Day Countdown

Image

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and if you haven’t started thinking about gifts… well, now is the time!

For me, Mother’s Day is when I really try to show my mom that everything she does for me really means something. So, the gifts that I give her reflect that. I usually start by making her coffee and breakfast- chocolate croissants from the local bakery, fruit salad, fresh chicken eggs, and I order her favorite lavender gelato to have to. Basically a big feast! Don’t know how to cook? No worries! I’ll include some recipes at the bottom of the post.

For her actual gift, I try to think of things that she really NEEDS, things that will help her on a day to day basis. And, things that will hep her relax. That way, it makes her life easier, which, is really what Mom’s need anyway right? Think of things like gift certificates to stores she often goes to, clothes, spa treatments, cleaning her car, 1 month of free dish service from you. Those are just options, but you get the idea.

Try to think of things that will make your mom feel special, that will help her and make things she does easier….

What are you thinking of getting your mom? And how does she impact your life?

Make Your Room YOURS

Your room is a space where you go to decompress, hangout, and be you without anyone or anything getting in the way. (Usually!) It should reflect your personality and create a comfortable vibe for you… it should have a THEME that makes you.. well.. you!

For example: The beach makes me completely relax, and its where I feel at home. That, mixed with sort of a funky bohemian look makes me feel creative and comfy. I took all of that and turned it into a ROOM theme! I have tons of beachy bohemian pillows, lamps, sheets, and decorations to help secure a safe space for myself.

(I’ll do a room theme at another time… it’s a little to messy right now!)

Figure out what makes you feel good. Is it old fashioned things? Punk things? Blue? Pink? Take time to think about it and then creatively figure out how to make that into a theme.

Comment and let me know what you guys come up with I’d love to know! And, you can take pictures and tweet them to me @SGoldstein33 too!

Crafting Your Summer Bucket List

SummerBucketList

May 1st is here… that means we have about 1 month before our lives are all about tans, relaxation, and fun with friends. For some people, well at least for me, knowing that it’s only a month away is HARD! It’s not here but it’s not far away… So how do we keep ourselves going? That’s easy. Craft a summer bucket list!

Yes sometimes bucket lists can be cheesy, but when you really put a realistic effort into crafting a bucket list you would be surprised at how much of it you accomplish. Not to mention how much fun you’ll have while doing it!

But how do you create a realistic bucket list? Here are 5 “tips”:

1. Make sure that it’s something you really WANT to do

2. Make sure you have potential transportation

3. Dont make anything to expensive

4. Include other people so you aren’t alone

5. Don’t make it to big

All of those 5 things take into account the usual issues that people have while making bucket lists, especially if you are a teen/ young teen.

Now that you have an idea of what your bucket lists should consist of… you may be at a road block. Then what DO I put on my bucket list? Below is my summer bucket list. Keep it mind these are just suggestions/ideas, you may not want to do what I do! And, yes, I took my 5 tips into account!:

  •  Go to the local Drive-In once a month for the double showing
  • Take a road trip to California
  • Get my first paid acting job
  • Teach Paddle Board Yoga
  • Go Horseback riding in the mountains
  • Try kayaking
  • Attend a pie eating contest
  • Run 15 miles
  • Surf
  • Shop until I drop
  • Ride my bike all the way to my favorite smoothie shop 30 miles away… and ride back
  • Take a week long camping trip… in my backyard
  • Get Henna tattoos with my best friends
  • Let go of all fear
  • Get in WICKED shape
  • Plan my 16th b-day party
  • Start my business
  • Reach 7,000 followers on twitter

That’s what I have so far… What is going to be on your bucket list?
