Delicious After School Snack

When you get home from school, especially this first week, you’re probably wiped, and need energy to get you throughout the homework that you have. The best way to get some healthy energy is to eat a nutritious snack! Here is a delicious recipe for a “protein bar” made with all natural and easy ingredients.

What you’ll need:

  • A small baking pan (like you would bake banana bread in)
  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup almond flour (available at lists of health food stores
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup coconut shavings

What to do:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Mix ingredients together in bowl. Make sure you mix well.
  • Put tin foil cover on bottom of baking pan, rub with a little coconut oil.
  • Pur mixture into pan.
  • Top with shredded coconut.
  • Bake for about 30-40 minutes or until it is a cookie consistency.
  • Eat and enjoy!

This is so delicious, and easy to make!

 

Off Campus Healthy Lunches

School has started, and you and your friends probably go off campus a lot for lunches. It is hard to eat healthy at fast food restraunts that most teens eat at, but here are some options that are healthier, and that will give you some energy to get through the rest of your day!

At Goodtimes

The grilled chicken salad is actually delicious! Just ask for the dressing you like best on the side, and only use a little bit.

At Chipotle

The chicken bowl is my favorite, just make sure you only eat half because they give you more insides than a typical burrito.

At Chick-file

Their grilled chicken sandwiches are the best option, ask for a side salad instead of fries, at half the bun, and get water to drink!

At Subway

A veggie delight on flatbread is my absolute favorite option! If your not a big veggie person, get a lean meat sandwich on flat bread, and make sure not to go crazy with the sauces.

At McDonalds

This is my least favorite place, so if you can avoid it DO. If you are stuck in a situation where you have to have it, get a salad or a yogurt parfait.

 

My suggestion would be to find a local place that does fast salads and soups, etc. It is healthier, and not to mention safer to eat!

 

You Are What You Think

Everyone has heard the phrase “You are what you eat” well, I have another scenario… you are what you think.

Your thoughts have a big impact on how you see yourself. They can have a positive effect, or a negative effect. Positive thoughts boost your self confidence, allow you to be comfortable with yourself, and make you beautiful inside and out. Negative thoughts, however, tear you down, make you self conscious, and they don’t allow to show your maximum beauty.

I was one go the negative thoughts people. On a daily basis I would wake up and be afraid to look in the mirror, go shopping, and hang out with my friends because I thought I was big. Almost every second of everyday I was telling myself I was to big. And guess what? I was. Then I had a wake up call. I convinced myself I was so ugly that people were starting to think I was. I decided to change my thoughts around, and told myself that I was beautiful more than I told myself I was big. And guess what? I wasn’t big anymore. Once I convinced myself I was beautiful, I was.

If you tell yourself you are something so many times, you become that word. You trick your mind into thinking it is something, and your body reacts to that. So pick a word that empowers you to be beautiful. It could be amazing, powerful, pretty, beautiful, strong, whatever really resonates with you. Pick a word, and say it to yourself all day. After a while you will become that because… well… YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK!

Yummy Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are great breakfasts, lunches, and dinners whenever you are in a hurry but need to eat something! Some of these recipes are all fruit, some have veggies mixed in, but they all are delicious and healthy!

Strawberry Peach 

Blend together 1 cup strawberries, 1 peach, and 1 cup honey greek yogurt in a blender. Pour and enjoy!

Banana Peanut Butter

Blend together 1 banana, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1/2 cup kale and 1 cup milk together. Pour and enjoy!

Mixed Berry Hydrator

Blend together 1/2 cup coconut water, 1 cup mixed berries, and 1 tablespoon honey together. Pour and enjoy!

Veggie Delight

Mix together 1/2 of the following veggies: kale, spinach, 1 banana, 1 apple, and 1/2 cup water. Pour and enjoy!

These different smoothies should apply to everyones needs and taste buds…. blend pour and enjoy my friends!

Delicious Snacks

 

It is important to keep our hunger satisfied, especially when we are at school. Here are some snacks you can buy, and make at home to take with you. Enjoy!

  • TlC or Kashi granola bars. (My favorite is the dark chocolate coconut)
  • 1 piece of babybel cheese with 6 trisect crackers.
  • 1 apple with 1 tablespoon peanut or almond butter.
  • Vegetable sticks.
  • 12 whole unsalted almonds.
  • 1/4 cup KIND granola.
  • 1 container of Chobani greek yogurt.
  • 2 Newman peanut butter cups.
  • 1 bag of POP Chips.

Pick your snacks in relation to what you are craving, i.e, sweet, salty, filling, light, etc. All of those snacks above can curb those cravings and hunger, and are delicious and healthy!

 

 

Emotional Stress Solutions

Going back to school can cause a lot of stress. Instead of letting that stress swallow you up and make you miserable, try out these tips and solutions!:

  1. Take a hot bubble bath.
  2. Take 10 deep breaths whenever you feel stressed.
  3. Go on a run after school to get rid of the stresses of your day.
  4. Keep your favorite smelling essential oil in your locker and put it on whenever you feels stressed out.
  5. Talk to your friends about what is bothering you.
  6. Call your mom during passing period.
  7. Write a quote on your hand or notebook, or keep it as your screensaver so that you can look at it whenever you need a little more strength.
  8. Make a homemade face mask and have a mini spa night after school and homework.
  9. Pop in your headphones and listen to your favorite tunes.

These tips should help you deal with your stress in a good and healthy way!

 

 

Creative Ways To Sneak In A Workout

Finding time to workout can be really tough, especially when you are hanging out with your friends. Here are some ways to sneak in a quick, effective, and fun workout!

Go to the mall…. and walk!

Surprisingly, going shopping is actually a pretty good workout. You are walking around the mall all day, and as long as you don’t eat bad food at the food court, you just got your daily workout in!

Have a dance party!

Get a dance game for your xbox ow wii and invite everyone over for a dance party! That way you are hanging out with your friends, and moving your body!

Take a group exercise class with your friends!

Grab a big group of friends and go take a rumba or pilates class! You can laugh about how hard your workout is together!

Pre-prepared Lunches

School lunches are terrible for you. They are fattening, unhealthy, and even dangerous to eat! Here are some easy recipes you can make the night before school to have a healthy and fulfilling lunch with you.

 

Chicken Mushroom soup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms
  • salt and pepper to season

Procedure

  1. Warm broth in pan
  2. Add mushrooms and cook until soft
  3. throw in dash of salt and pepper
  4. Place in thermos and warm for 5 min before you leave for school

Kitchen Sink Salad

Ingredients

  1. Veggies from your kitchen
  2. Fruits from your kitchen
  3. Any lean meats such as fish or chicken leftover from dinners

Procedure

  • Mix ingredients together
  • Top with favorite salad dressing
  • Place in container
  • Enjoy for lunch!

Fiber Enriched Pasta Salad

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup whole wheat pasta
  2. 1 cup dark veggies such as peppers, spinach, artichoke, and cucumbers.

Procedure

  • Boil pasta
  • Top with veggies
  • Pour a little olive oil on top
  • Place in container and enjoy for lunch!

Those are some staples for lunch, soup for when it gets cold, salad when its hot or you aren’t going to be to active, and pasta when its cold AND you are going to be super active. Try out some of these recipes and get them nailed before school starts!

 

Zumba… Dance Your Way To Your Best Body

Ok guys, I just got back from my first Zumba class at my local gym and let me tell you…. ITS AWESOME!

I am so used to doing things like running, cross training, yoga, and pilates, but Zumba was so fun! It was like having a huge dance party and breaking a sweat. All my worries went away and the only thing I was thinking about was how my body was moving with the music.

For those of you who don’t know what Zumba is, here is a simple explanation: Zumba is, more or less, ancient african dances mixed with some more modern dance moves. Your teacher is really the one who controls how modern it is. Personally, I liked the salsa type music, it was awesome!

The best part of it was that I didn’t even notice I was working out, I was just having fun which is the way that it is really supposed to be. If any of yo out there are getting sick of running, swimming, or just doing the same thing every day, I really encourage you to go and try a Zumba class at your gym, they will most likely have one. And, if you nervous to go by yourself, invite a big group of friends to go with you, bonding time plus getting a nice bod time!

Healthy Tortilla Hummus Wrap

Lunches are the meals that most of us eat the unhealthiest at. Whether you stop and grab fast food, or skip it all together. However, lunch is the meal that will give you energy for the rest of the day! This recipe is healthy, super fast, and with give you some awesome energy to get you through the rest of the day!

Ingredients

1 whole wheat tortilla

1 tablespoon hummus

1/2 cup spinach

1 tablespoon salsa

1 tablespoon sour green

1 shopped mini pepper

 

Procedure

  1. Place tortilla on plate
  2. Spread hummus on tortilla
  3. Spread spinach on tortilla
  4. Top with chopped pepper, salsa, and sour cream

I personally eat this lunch several times  week! it is so fast, so good, and so healthy! You can make it in the morning and bring it with you, drive home really fast and make it, or find something similar to it at a restaurant or store.
